Shiraz the world city for handicrafts
The capital of Fars province in southwestern Iran, Shiraz celebrated as the heartland of Persian culture for over 2000 years. Shiraz has become synonymous with education, nightingales, poetry and crafts skills passed down from generation to generation. It was one of the most important cities in the medieval Islamic world and was the Iranian capital during the Zand dynasty. Famous for its wine, Shiraz is both a historic site and an attractive modern city, with eye catching splendid gardens, shrines, and exquisite mosques.
Shiraz was recognized as the world city of handicrafts by the World Crafts Council in January 2020. The artists of this city, with great talent, create the most engaging works of art such as khatam-kari, silver dishes, glassblowing, felt alabaster and wood carving.
